2010:
The UK End to End

Welcome to the Hip Trip.

We are Ben, Tom and Matthew Styles. We were born with a rare inherited bone condition called spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia tarda. We were given total hip replacement surgery at the Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre in Exeter and now enjoy a level of mobility that we never thought possible. The Hip Trip is our way of celebrating how much bigger life has become for us, saying thank you and hopefully giving something back.

2010 marks the 40th anniversary of the Exeter Hip and the manufacture of the one millionth Exeter stem. In honour of this event we are cycling the UK and Ireland end to end and hoping to raise £10,000 for Joint Action, the charitable arm of the British Orthopaedic Association.

The chances are we all know somebody who has benefitted from a hip replacement, 50% of us will need Orthopaedic treatment at some stage in our lives and, like the three of us, 17,000 babies are born each year with orthopaedic defects. Joint Action funds research into treatment that can, quite literally, turn thousands of people’s lives around.

We hope our story will be of some inspiration to you and that you feel motivated to sponsor us and help fund the research that has given us and countless others the freedom to enjoy life in a way that otherwise would not be possible.
